SOUP DIET (LOSE UP TO 10 POUNDS IN A WEEK)


I've known the cabbage soup diet for a long time now and I've gotten used to it once a year. I see it as a detox for my body. I recommend doing it in the winter (it's more inspiring to eat soup!). Personally, I like to do it in March, just before spring.


All you need to know about the soup diet

ORIGIN OF THE SOUP DIET
The soup diet was created in the 1980's by an American clinic in order to make obese patients lose weight quickly before surgery.

HOW THE SOUP DIET WORKS
Basically, the soup diet consists of eating vegetable soup for a week! Traditionally, the diet has consisted only of soup, but it has been adapted by adding certain foods to be less drastic and healthier. Just follow the steps day by day.

THE BENEFITS OF THE SOUP DIET
The soup diet leads to rapid and significant weight loss. It allows fat to melt. We are talking about a weight loss of up to 10 pounds in 1 week. The fact that you can eat certain foods at will makes you feel less deprived than with other diets and since soup contains cabbage, it calms your appetite. Finally, since this diet is rich in water, fruits and vegetables, it has a diuretic effect and cleanses the body by draining waste products from the body, thus eliminating toxins and restoring the body's system. Rapid weight loss is motivating to return to a healthy lifestyle and the cleansing of the system restores energy to the body.

WARNING AGAINST THE SOUP DIET
One must be very careful before undertaking this kind of diet, which can be considered drastic. Lack of carbohydrates can lead to a risk of hypoglycemia, which can cause fatigue, dizziness, malaise and headaches. Listen to your body and don't push it too far. Lack of protein can melt muscles. It would then be recommended to add protein and skim milk shakes once or twice a day. The low calorie intake also slows down the metabolism, so it is important to pay close attention to your diet after the week of the soup diet to avoid the yo-yo effect. This would result in you gaining more weight afterwards. Finally, this is not a miracle diet or a long-term solution.

Course of the week of the soup diet


You can cook the vegetable soup according to your taste. The important thing is that it contains cabbage. You can add carrots, celery, broccoli, cauliflower, green beans, tomatoes, zucchini, mushrooms, peppers and all the vegetables you want. Just add broth and spices. (see my 2 favorite recipes below)

DAY 1
Soup at will.
Fruit at will, except bananas.

DAY 2
Soup at will.
Vegetables (raw, cooked or canned) at will.
Green vegetables and salads are recommended, but legumes, peas and corn should be avoided.
A large baked potato with butter for supper.

DAY 3
Soup at will.
Fruits and vegetables at will.

DAY 4
Soup at will.
3 bananas and skim milk (or soy milk or sugar-free almond milk). You can make a smoothie out of it!

DAY 5
Soup at will.
Protein (beef, skinless chicken breast or fish) and vegetables.
Up to 20 ounces of protein and fresh or canned tomatoes.

DAY 6
Soup at will.
Protein (beef, skinless chicken breast or fish) and vegetables.
Up to 20 ounces of protein and green vegetables)

DAY 7
Soup at will.
Brown rice with vegetables for supper.

RECOMMENDED
Low intensity physical activity (walking, yoga etc)
Drink lots of water
You can also drink herbal tea and sugar-free juice.
Vitamin supplements
1 to 2 protein supplements (low in carbohydrates) per day to prevent muscle loss

TO AVOID
Intense physical activity
Bananas (except day 4), legumes, peas, corn, potatoes (except day 2)
Coffee and sugar

Cabbage soup recipes

ASIAN VERSION OF CABBAGE SOUP

Ingredients
- One third of a large kale in strips
- 1/2 cauliflower
- 4 carrots cut in julienne
- 4 stalks of celery
- 2 tomatoes
- 1 white onion
- 1 medium leek cut into slices
- 200 ml of tomato coulis
- 6 cups of vegetable broth

 

- 2 small chopped hot peppers or 2 tbsp of siracha
- 2 clove of garlic
- 2 cm3 of fresh ginger, chopped
- 2 tablespoons of sesame oil
- 1 c.s. of cumin
- 1 c.s. of curry
- 2 bay leaves
- 2 branches of lemongrass
- 1 tbsp. soy sauce
- chopped fresh coriander and parsley

Preparation
In a large saucepan, add the sesame oil, onion, garlic and leeks. Sauté for 2 minutes over medium-high heat. Add the curry and cumin. Sauté for 2 minutes. Add the tomato coulis. Stir well. Cook for 2 minutes. Add all the vegetables. Cook for 5 minutes. Add broth, 1 tbsp. chopped coriander, hot pepper, bay leaves, ginger, lemongrass. Cook for 10 minutes, then lower the heat. Simmer until the vegetables are fairly cooked. Add soy sauce and fresh herbs.


MEDITERRANEAN VERSION OF CABBAGE SOUP

Ingredients
- One third of a large cabbage cut into small pieces
- 1 red bell pepper, diced
- 1 yellow bell pepper, diced
- 4 carrots cut into slices
- 4 stalks of celery cut into small pieces
- 250 g of snap beans (or green beans)
- 4 small tomatoes
- 1 large Spanish onion
- 2 clove of garlic
- 75 g of pitted black olives
- 2 dried chilies or 2 tbsp. crushed chilies
- 2 tablespoons of balsamic vinegar
- 4 tablespoons of olive oil
- 1 liter of vegetable broth
- 2 sprigs of thyme
- 2 branches of basil
- 1 sprig of sauce
- sea salt

Preparation
In a large saucepan, sauté the onion and garlic cloves in 2 tablespoons of olive oil. Add the carrots, celery, beans, cabbage and peppers, cooking for 1 minute each time. Add salt, chilli and broth and bring to a boil. Bind the thyme, basil and sage and add them to the mixture. Simmer for 15 minutes. Remove garlic cloves. Add the tomatoes. Simmer until vegetables are cooked through. Finally add the balsamic vinegar and olives.

After the soup diet
The cabbage soup diet is not designed for lasting weight loss. It is effective for rapid weight loss, but it should be seen as a cure for excess weight loss and not as a diet to be maintained for more than a week. As with all low-calorie diets, this type of diet decreases the metabolism in terms of energy expended by the body at rest. Therefore, food must be reintegrated gradually to avoid a rapid weight regain. It is advisable to eat lots of vegetables and fruit, proteins and few starchy foods during the following week. The best long-term solution is obviously to maintain a balanced and varied diet.
